President Steve’s journey in construction began alongside his father in northern Alberta, where he gained hands-on experience and a deep appreciation for hard work. After successfully building and developing businesses across the province, he founded North Star Contracting in 1998. Through his executive leadership and strategic vision, North Star has grown into a full-service construction company capable of delivering projects of any scale.

With specialized expertise in project management, site development, water and sewage infrastructure, excavation, and commercial construction, Steve has positioned North Star as a trusted leader in the industry. His ability to execute multi-million-dollar projects with precision and efficiency continues to drive the company’s success.

Scott Price

CA, CFA, Chief Finance Officer With nearly 30 years of experience in finance and over a decade as a finance executive in the construction industry, Scott brings a wealth of expertise to North Star Contracting. He has a proven ability to define, document, and implement strategic visions that drive business success.

As the head of Finance, Administration, HR, and IT, Scott ensures North Star operates with strong financial governance, corporate controls, and operational efficiency. His expertise in streamlining processes, increasing efficiencies, and reducing costs makes him an integral part of the team. Beyond finance, Scott also contributes to operations, bringing a well-rounded perspective that supports the company’s growth and long-term success.

 

 

Jacob Wiens

Operations Manager Jacob brings over 15 years of hands-on experience in civil engineering, with a career that started from the ground up. Beginning as a laborer at H&M Excavating, he worked his way into a lead hand role, gaining invaluable firsthand knowledge of the industry. His deep understanding of civil construction, combined with a Civil Engineering Technology diploma, has shaped his ability to manage complex projects with confidence and expertise.

Since transitioning to Project Manager in 2014, Jacob has successfully overseen a range of commercial, municipal, and community development projects, managing contracts from $1 million to over $20 million. His comprehensive experience and technical proficiency make him an essential part of North Star Contracting’s leadership team, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and with exceptional quality.

Dale Hull

Chief Estimator Dale began his career in the heavy civil industry over 16 years ago, gaining hands-on experience in the field while putting himself through university. After graduating, he transitioned from field operations to estimating and project management, where he quickly honed his expertise in budgeting, planning, and execution.

Dale had the opportunity to learn under one of Calgary’s most respected deep utility and heavy civil estimators, gaining invaluable insights and skills that have shaped his approach to project management. His deep industry knowledge, combined with his practical experience, makes him a key asset to North Star Contracting, ensuring projects are efficiently estimated and executed to the highest standard.​

Craig Meadus

Senior Project Manager Craig brings over 18 years of experience in civil construction, with a strong background in estimating, project management, and executive leadership. He began his career with Lafarge, where he gained hands-on experience in estimating and project management, setting the foundation for his expertise.

Over the years, Craig has taken on key leadership roles, including Chief Estimator/Senior Project Manager at Pro-Con Road Works, General Manager at Trotter & Morton’s Bluebird Contracting Services, and General Manager at Aecon Transportation West. His career then led him to Sales & Marketing Management with Mainland Construction Materials in British Columbia.

Craig has a proven track record of leading project and estimating teams to significant growth by developing structured, reliable, and consistent processes. His approach is built on fostering meaningful industry relationships, ensuring successful collaborations with stakeholders across all aspects of the business. At North Star Contracting, Craig continues to drive innovation, efficiency, and strong partnerships within the industry.

Kyle Murdoch

Maintenance Manager Kyle began his career in heavy equipment maintenance with SMS Equipment Inc., where he developed a strong foundation in fleet management and mechanical operations. He completed his education at SAIT, earning certifications as both an on-road and off-road Heavy Equipment Technician.

Over 13 years at SMS Equipment, Kyle progressed from labourer to superintendent within the Suncor Oil Sands Trucking division, where he played a key role in warranty management, autonomous operations, and customer support for a fleet of 400-tonne Komatsu haul trucks.

In early 2022, Kyle transitioned back to the construction industry, joining North Star Contracting Inc. to lead internal fleet maintenance and repairs. His extensive experience working with external clients in the mining industry gives him a unique ability to effectively support North Star’s business units, ensuring their equipment needs are met with efficiency and precision.
